Brockville taxi driver choked, punched by passenger: police

A man has been arrested and charged with assault against a taxi driver in Brockville.

The Brockville Police Service reports that on Jan. 1, at about 2 a.m., officers received a call regarding a taxi driver who was assaulted by a male customer in the area of Parkedale Avenue and the Super Store.

Officers quickly responded and their investigation revealed that a 29-year-old male, was intoxicated and causing problems in the cab.

‘The taxi driver pulled over and asked the subject to exit the vehicle,” reads a media release from police. “The subject became more agitated and assaulted the taxi driver by choking and punching him.”

The injuries are considered non-life-threatening. The subject was arrested and charged with assault and assault cause bodily harm for choking. He was held in custody until sober and later released on conditions and a future court date.
