Brockville police arrest man allegedly stealing food from grocery store

The Brockville Police Service recently charged a man who was allegedly shoplifting meat from Food Basics.

In a media release, police state that on Jan. 13, 2024, at approximately 11:15 a.m., officers responded to Food Basics, where a male suspect had reportedly absconded with a bag containing meat products. Police identified the 46-year-old male suspect, and police say that the individual, upon observing the officers, attempted to evade apprehension by fleeing from the vicinity.

Police pursued the suspect, and he was apprehended the vicinity of 125 Stewart Blvd. The man was placed under arrest and charged with theft under $5,000, along with two counts of failing to comply with probation conditions.

The stolen property was successfully recovered during the course of the incident.

Following the arrest, the suspect was released with a scheduled court date for future legal proceedings related to the charges levied against him.
