The Upper Canada District School Board (UCDSB) is moving a PA Day scheduled for this April as a result of the upcoming total solar eclipse.

In a letter to parents dated Jan. 18, the board explains that a total solar eclipse is expected to occur across all regions of the UCDSB on Monday, April 8 between 2 and 4 p.m.

“This overlaps with our dismissal times and bus departures,” the letter says.

Since this rare solar event poses “increased safety concerns for students,” the PA Day originally scheduled for April 26 will be moved to April 8.

“This will ensure that students are at home and are not outside or enroute while the eclipse is taking place,” the school board says.
