Rdeau Lakes Township has announced the appointment of Steve Holmes as the new Manager of Parks and Facilities, effective February 20, 2024.

Holmes, with 17 years of experience at the Upper Canada District School Board, will bring his extensive background in project management to oversee the township’s parks and facilities.

During his tenure at the Upper Canada District School Board, Holmes served as a project manager in the design and construction department, successfully completing over $118 million in construction projects. These projects included the construction of new schools, building additions, renovations and civil work.

Rideau Lakes Mayor, Arie Hoogenboom, expressed confidence in Holmes, stating:

“Holmes comes to his new position having successfully managed several capital projects – and is now poised to seamlessly take on the tasks at hand.”

A notable achievement in Holmes’ career was securing LEED Silver certification for the new Bridgewood Public School in Cornwall. Overcoming the challenge of preserving protected butternut trees on the property, Holmes located the new school while incorporating a walking path and outdoor learning shelter to celebrate the distinctive tree species.

Holmes, showcasing a keen interest in heritage preservation and innovation, relocated exterior stonework from the original Kemptville High School to the new school. Additionally, he opted for a traditional grass surface for the football field, designed to be easily transformed into a turf surface.

Holmes brings a wealth of municipal work experience, having served as the chief building official for the Township of Elizabethtown-Kitley and as an inspection officer with the City of Brockville.
