Victim of fatal collision north of Brockville identified as 65-year-old man from Cardinal area

The Leeds County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) continues to investigate a fatal collision between Brockville and Smiths Falls.

The collision happened Friday, Feb. 2, at around 1 p.m. on County Road 29, between County Roads 42 and 28. A tractor trailer and sport utility vehicle collided head-on.

The driver of the sport utility vehicle was transported to hospital where he was pronounced deceased. He has been identified as a 65-year-old man from the Cardinal area. Police did not name the victim.

The driver of the transport was not seriously hurt, police say.

OPP Collision Reconstructionists and members of the Traffic Collision Investigation Team continue to assist Leeds County OPP officers with the investigation.

County Road 29 was closed for several hours for the investigation but was re-opened Friday night.
