In the early hours of March 2, 2024, Brockville police officers on routine patrol observed a vehicle in the vicinity of Stewart Boulevard and Highway 401 that they say was driving erratically.

A media release from police say the officers’ attention was drawn to the vehicle’s erratic behaviour, prompting them to conduct a stop. Upon inspection, it was found that there were multiple individuals inside the vehicle.

Suspicions arose regarding the 19-year-old male driver’s sobriety, leading officers to administer a roadside breathalyzer test. The results indicated a fail, signalling the presence of alcohol in the driver’s system. The individual was placed under arrest and transported to the Brockville Police Service for further testing.

Police say tests conducted at the station confirmed the initial suspicion: the male driver had been operating the vehicle while impaired. As a result of this finding, the vehicle was impounded, the driver’s license suspended, and he was charged with two offences: operation while impaired and operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration exceeding 80mg.

The teen was released with a scheduled court appearance to address the charges levelled against him.
