Man allegedly tries to steal dog, pulls knife on owner outside Brockville Metro

The Brockville Police Service recently arrested a man who is accused of trying to steal a dog, then pulling a knife on the owner.

In a media release, police say that on Monday, March 11, at about 5:30 p.m., police received a 911 call regarding a robbery in the area of the Metro on King Street West.

Their investigation revealed that a man had attended the grocery store with his dog. He reportedly tied his pet up outside the store while he went into the store quickly to grab a few items. Witnesses observed another man then approach the dog and appear to attempt to steal it. The owner happened to come out while this was going on, and confronted the suspect.

Then, the suspect allegedly brandished a knife and swung it toward the dog owner. The victim was able to knock the knife away from the suspect, who fled the area.

Fortunately, no one was injured, police say.

Brockville police located the suspect a short distance away in the area of Pearl Street West. When he was arrested and searched, it was found that he was in possession of a second knife. The 42-year-old, male was held in custody for a bail hearing after being charged with robbery with a weapon, assault with a weapon and possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose.

Charges have not been proven in court.
