Environment Canada has issued a snowfall warning for the Brockville area.

Significant snowfall is expected to begin today, for a total of 10 to 20 cm before tapering off late Thursday.

“Rain is expected transition to snow late this afternoon or early this evening,” the alert states. “Heaviest snow is expected this evening and overnight. Snow will taper in intensity through the day Thursday.”

With temperatures being very close to the freezing mark, the snow may be very heavy and wet in nature. As a result, local utility outages are possible.

Rapidly accumulating snow could make travel difficult over some locations, and visibility may be suddenly reduced at time due to heavy snow. Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow.
