Taser deployed by Brockville police at McDonald’s after man threatens self harm

A situation at a local restaurant led to the use of a Taser to subdue a man engaged in self harm, the Brockville Police Service reports.

In a media release, police say that on April 1, at around 4:45 p.m., police responded to a report concerning a 36-year-old male at the Parkdale Avenue McDonald’s, allegedly in possession of a suicide note.

Upon arrival, officers attempted to engage with the individual, urging him to peacefully leave and seek medical assistance at a nearby hospital. Despite their efforts, the man produced a large knife from his waistband and attempted self-harm. In response, officers used a conductive energy weapon (TASER) to subdue the individual and prevent harm to himself or others.

Following the incident, the individual was taken into custody and transported to Brockville General Hospital for mental health treatment. Fortunately, there were no serious injuries reported.
