Lyndhurst harassment investigation leads to firearm, drug charges

The Leeds County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has apprehended a 50-year-old male on multiple charges, including harassment and firearms-related offences in Lyndhurst.

This incident first began on March 16, when the accused was warned by police in regard to trespassing and criminal harassment.

Despite these warnings, the situation escalated in the ensuing weeks, marked by several attempted break-ins at the victim’s residence. Further investigation revealed that the accused unlawfully possessed a variety of firearms, lacking a valid Possession and Acquisition Licence (PAL).

On April 14, officers executed a search warrant, culminating in the arrest of the accused without incident. The seized items included a crossbow, an air handgun, an air rifle, a bolt-action rifle, a semi-automatic rifle, a semi-automatic shotgun, a lever-action rifle, a pump-action rifle, assorted ammunition, and over 1.5 grams of Psilocybin (mushrooms).

In light of the findings, the accused now faces a series of charges under the Criminal Code, including two counts of break-and-enter dwelling house with intent to commit indictable offenses, two counts of careless storage of firearms, criminal harassment, harassing communications, possession of an imitation weapon for dangerous purposes, and unauthorized possession of a firearm.

Additionally, the accused faces charges under the Trespass to Property Act for two counts of entering premises when entry is prohibited, as well as possession of a Schedule III Substance under the Controlled Drug and Substances Act.

The accused has been remanded into custody pending a scheduled appearance before the Ontario Superior Court of Justice in the City of Brockville on April 19, 2024. To safeguard the identity of the victim, the name of the accused will not be disclosed at this time.
