Delta man Joshua Reed, 19, has died, after spending the past seven months in hospital in Kingston.

Reed had been in the Kingston Health Sciences Centre (KGH) since a dirt bike accident on Nov. 4, 2023, near Chantry and County Road 8. He had been in and out of a coma, as he had suffered substantial head trauma.

Rideau Lakes Township council announced the young man’s passing during a regular meeting of council on June 10.

Coun. Deborah Hutchings stated that the young man had “just passed away.”

Mayor Arie Hoogenboom suggested a moment of silence.

On June 6, Reed’s aunt, Laura Reed, announced a barbecue chicken dinner to be hosted on June 23 as a fundraiser for the family, held at the Delta Royal Canadian Legion.

“As most of you know, our nephew Joshua had an accident at the beginning of November, which left Joshua seriously injured. Unfortunately, due to these injuries Joshua will not be coming home and our family is trying to prepare for Joshua’s final journey,” Laura stated on Facebook.

The $22 take-out meal (from 4 to 6 p.m.) will include a chicken dinner, macaroni salad, coleslaw, dinner roll and dessert; people can pre-order by June 17 by calling 613-928-2712.

Joshua is the son of Heather and Jerry. Krysia Gill was the young man’s girlfriend.

Joshua will be remembered as a fun-loving guy who enjoyed dirt biking, truck pulls and country music. Laura said her nephew was “very much an outdoor country boy.”

He was employed with his father at Pine Hill Construction.
