Off-duty Brockville police officers intervene, arrest suspect after witnessing incident of domestic violence

A recent altercation in Brockville saw two bystanders, who happened to be local police officers, intervene in an act of intimate partner violence, Brockville police report.
Police say in a media release that on July 14, at about 12:30 p.m., police received information that a man had assaulted a woman in the George Street area.
Two off duty police constables were in the area when the incident occurred, and they observed a male and female engaged in an argument that escalated to the point that the male pushed and punched the female, police say.
“The two witnesses intervened, stopped the assault, placed the 35-year-old male under arrest and contacted police,” the release reads. Police say it was known that the couple involved were in a relationship.
The victim received non-life-threatening injuries.
The male subject was charged with assault and held for a bail hearing.
