This weekend, grab the kids and experience the scenic waterfront of downtown Brockville like you never have before on the Aquatarium’s brand-new train.

The Aquatarium (AQ) is inviting the public to join them on Friday, July 26 to celebrate the launch of their new all-new Canadian-made train. According to a press release from the AQ, “Similar to its predecessor, the new AQ Train features one engine and three cars, accommodating approximately 12-16 passengers per ride.”

The train has been a beloved element of the overall AQ experience for many years, taking visitors on a round-trip through the historic Railway Tunnel and around the waterfront Blockhouse Island loop. In their press release, the AQ shared, “Since 2022, over 10,000 children, adults, and seniors have enjoyed a ride on the train.”

According to Executive Director Thomas Harder, the AQ team discovered in late May that they were going to need to purchase a brand new train for summer 2024. As a result, a deal was secured last month with the Canadian company Wattman World to purchase a ‘mini express trackless attraction train.’ The train was delivered and unloaded last week courtesy of G.C Hudson Supply Limited, another Brockville-based company.

Harder explained to Brockvilleist, “The decision to replace the old train at the Aquatarium stemmed from several key issues related to its age and functionality. The old train, which had been in service for over 10 years, was beginning to show signs of wear and technological obsolescence. Its speed and battery life were becoming inadequate for meeting visitor expectations.”

He continued that the new train looks similar to its predecessors, but it offers a lot of significant improvements across critical areas.

“It boasts increased speed, ensuring smoother and more efficient rides for guests. Enhanced battery life means fewer interruptions and more reliable operation throughout the day, contributing to a better visitor experience. Overall, the introduction of the new train represents a proactive step by the Aquatarium to maintain high standards of visitor enjoyment, safety, and operational efficiency.”

This new train was purchased through the generous donation of David and Anne Beatty. Harder shared, “Dave and Anne Beatty are integral supporters of the Aquatarium, not only as donors but as key figures in our community’s philanthropic efforts. Their generous donation for the train exemplifies their commitment to enhancing our facilities and visitor experiences. Their ongoing generosity is truly instrumental in making AQ a thriving and beloved destination for all.”

The launch event will take place at the Armagh Sifton Price Park near the south end of the Brockville Railway Tunnel between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Guests can enjoy free family activities like face painting, snacks, vendors, and even a bouncy castle provided by Big Brothers Big Sisters of Leeds and Grenville. Tickets for the long-awaited AQ Train will be available at the event.
