Leeds and the Thousand Islands mayor salutes Lansdowne Fair

Township of Leeds and the Thousand Islands Mayor Corinna Smith-Gatcke took time during Monday’s council meeting to thank organizers, township staff and the community for another successful Lansdowne Fair.
The Lansdowne Fair, which marked its 160th edition this year, wrapped up on Sunday at the Lansdowne Fairgrounds.
“A huge congratulations to the organizers and all of the people who really put a huge amount of effort into that particular event, as well as all events around the township,” said Smith-Gatcke.
Smith-Gatcke shared a heartwarming moment that occurred to her at the front gates of the Lansdowne Fairgrounds.
“A young lady with some developmental challenges saw Alice in Wonderland, who was on the grounds,” said Smith-Gatcke.
“And I have never seen someone’s face light up like that, and the way she was so happy, it really encapsulated what the fair is to me, which is that people go there to see friends and family and see things that maybe they have never seen, like tarantulas, or snakes, or super dogs, or old time fiddlers, what have you. There were so many families, coming with their children, happy to be there, happy to have some fun.”
