A date has been set for an inquest into the death of a 67-year-old man who passed away after being transferred to hospital from the Brockville Jail in 2019.

Dr. Louise McNaughton-Filion, Regional Supervising Coroner, East Region, Ottawa Office, announced that the inquest will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 26, 2024. Dr. Richard McLean will be the presiding officer and Peter Napier will be inquest counsel.

Motard died at the Ottawa Hospital on Aug. 2, 2019, after being transferred from Brockville General Hospital where he had been transported from the Brockville Jail. An inquest into his death is discretionary under the Coroners Act.

The inquest will examine the circumstances surrounding Mr. Motard’s death. The jury may make recommendations aimed at preventing further deaths.

The inquest is expected to last five days and hear from approximately 11 witnesses, and will be conducted by video conference.
