Downtown Prescott to come alive with artists, buskers, curling and more this weekend

The King Street Promenade is coming to Prescott this weekend, and lots of fun and family-friendly activities await on Saturday, Aug. 3 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The King Street Promenade, hosted by Explore Prescott, The Downtown Prescott RiverWalk District and the Prescott Pop-Ups, is an annual one-day street festival for the community featuring inflatable slides, live music, buskers, artists, and a sidewalk sale.
The festival will be located between Edward Street and George Street in the Downtown Prescott RiverWalk District. While shopping and exploring, guests will be immersed among various buskers such as magician Rob Power, balloon artist Ian Quick, sidewalk chalk artist François Pelletier and more.
The six-hour event will also stage live music performances by Other2, Conor Veinotte, Ron Roach, and more. All musical acts featured have been provided by Upper Canada Folkfest.
The Prescott Fire Department will be running its Touch-a-Truck program to entertain and educate children with one of their official fire trucks.

Finally, The Prescott Curling Club and the Prescott Brockville Cricket Club will also be set up on King Street, organizing interactive sports games and challenges for the whole family to enjoy.
Brockvilleist spoke with Ron Whitehorne, a member of the Prescott Curling Club Board of Directors, to hear more about what they have in store. Whitehorne explained that while the club has participated in many pop-ups, school visits, and other community events in the past, this year will be their first time at the King Street Promenade.
He continued, “It gives people a feel for the game and it’s marked off like a normal curling rink would be. It’s pretty popular – with both kids and adults.”
The club’s little rock coordinator and several active curling members will be onsite to welcome visitors and answer questions.
“It’s not unusual for people to say ‘There’s a curling club in Prescott?’ And I get to say “Yes, there is!” Whitehorne continued. “We certainly encourage people to come to us if they’re interested in learning more. We’ll take people’s names down so we can send them some information in the future or join us for one of our open houses.”

Prescott residents and business owners should note that King Street will be closed to traffic during this event.
“The Curling Club has a portable apparatus that looks like a short curling rink. It’s about 30 feet long, it’s inflatable and itcomes with these discs that come with it so you can actually throw a rock on it and it feels like curling outside,” shared Whitehorne.
