There’s much to celebrate in the Township of Augusta with the newly opened pickleball courts, outdoor rink and playground located at the Maynard Community Recreation Centre.

At a ribbon-cutting event, held on Sunday, Aug. 11, community members, local officials, and families gathered to mark the exciting addition of these recreational facilities, aimed at providing quality recreational opportunities for residents of all ages. Attendees had the opportunity to explore the new facilities, try out the pickleball courts, enjoy the playground equipment, and play floor hockey on the ice rink.

“We are thrilled to unveil these new amenities that will enhance the quality of life for our community members,” said Augusta Mayor Jeff Shaver. “The pickleball courts, outdoor rink, and playground are designed to promote health, wellness, and community engagement, and we are excited to see residents enjoy these spaces.”

Shaver continued, stating that “these facilities will not only enhance our community’s quality of life, but also provide valuable opportunities for residents of all ages to stay active, connect with one another, and enjoy our beautiful surroundings. We believe that investing in recreation is an investment in the health, happiness, and well-being of our citizens, and I look forward to seeing the positive impact these new amenities will have on our community.”

In addition to Shaver, MPP Steve Clark, Prescott Mayor Gauri Shankar, and Councillors Michelle Bowman, Tanya Henry, and Henrik Pape were all in attendance, as were township staff and many volunteers from the Maynard Recreation Committee.

Clark congratulated Maynard Recreation Committee volunteers and Augusta Township on the revitalization of the community centre. “Everyone involved should be so proud of these new facilities, including the playground, pickle ball courts, and outdoor rink, which will provide year-round recreational opportunities for residents of all ages,” the MPP noted.

Tommy Lovegrover, chair of the Manyard Recreation Committee, noted that “Exciting times lie ahead as we unveil our new recreation amenities to enrich the lives of our community members.” These additions, he said, “aim to promote active lifestyles, foster social connections, and create memorable experiences for all. Together, let us embrace these enhancements and continue to build a vibrant and inclusive recreational environment for everyone to enjoy.”
