Axe-wielding suspect charged with assault with weapon in Brockville

Brockville police recently arrested 40-year-old man at gunpoint after receiving a 911 call about someone being threatened with an axe in the area of Henry Street. The call came in on Thursday, Aug. 15 at about 8:45 p.m.
Police say that the victim was using the boat launch, and had exited his pickup truck momentarily to check his boat trailer before leaving the area. He noticed that the male suspect was leaving the door of the vehicle with the key to his pickup truck. As the suspect was walking away, the victim confronted him, police say. At that time, the subject brandished an axe waiving it in a threatening manner at the victim, before making further attempts to leave with the property.
Officers located the male and took him into custody. Thankfully, no one was injured.
It was then discovered that the suspect was currently sentenced to four separate probation orders with conditions to keep the peace and be of good behaviour. The property was recovered and the male subject was held for a bail hearing for the offences of assault with a weapon, theft under $5,000, possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose and four counts of fail to comply with probation conditions.
