A reported stolen bike led to a man brandishing a knife during a conversation with Brockville police officers, and subsequently being charged.

On Aug. 22, police received a report from a 33-year-old man regarding the theft of his bicycle.

Police say the man was very agitated, to the point where he was making comments to cause bodily harm to a woman he believed had committed the theft.

“Officers were speaking with the subject at about 8 p.m. in the area of William Street about the theft,” police say. “During that conversation he brandished a knife…he eventually complied with officers demands to drop the knife.”

Police say that shortly after, he began walking into traffic, causing near collisions and obstructing traffic.

He was then arrested and charged with possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose and mischief – interfere with the lawful use and operation of property.

The suspect was held for a bail hearing.
