A 26-year-old man was taken into custody after after a public display of domestic assault in Brockville.

The Brockville Police Service says that on Aug. 25, at about 3:15 p.m., officers received a 911 call regarding a disturbance involving a male screaming at a female in the area of Park Street and Front Avenue. The male then left the area, police were told. After speaking with the woman involved, police learned that the two were in a relationship, and involved in an argument when the screaming occurred.

“This argument escalated to the point that the 26-year-old male began throwing items at the female victim,” police say.

The victim had minor non-life-threatening, injuries.

It was also learned that the male was on probation and a release order with bail conditions to abstain from communicating with the victim in relation to a previous domestic disturbance.

Shortly after, police received information that the male involved was in the area of Oxford Avenue, “agitated and holding a knife to his neck.”

Officers responded and luckily were able to diffuse the situation, the media release says.

The man eventually calmed, and was taken into custody. He was held for a bail hearing for the offences of assault, possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose, fail to comply with release order and fail to comply with probation.
