Water Street Swing Bridge to remain closed in Gananoque

It’s been determined that the Swing Bridge on Water Street in Gananoque must remain closed to vehicle and pedestrian traffic at this time.
That’s according to an update provided by Gananoque Mayor John Beddows.
The investigation into the bridge was conducted after the rains of Aug. 8-10.
During the last intense rainfall in Gananoque, Water Street at the east end of the bridge was overflowing and the storm sewer wasn’t taking the water.
A pothole appeared and the town closed the bridge to vehicle and pedestrian traffic.
“Public Works and our engineering consultants are working to develop a plan to repair the roadbed and safely reopen the bridge to traffic,” said Beddows.
Council is scheduled to receive a detailed update on this issue at the council meeting on Sept. 3, which starts at 5 p.m.
“Anyone interested in understanding what has happened, and the way forward, is invited to read the council agenda for the Sept. 3 meeting on the town’s website and, even more importantly, to attend the meeting of council in person or electronically,” said Beddows.
