‘Suspicious activity’ at golf course north of Brockville leads to 23 charges

Leeds OPP has charged two individuals – one from Ottawa and one from Brockville – with a combined 23 charges as a result of several investigations.

In an Aug. 29 media release, police say that on Aug. 28, shortly after 3:30 a.m., Leeds OPP officers were called to investigate suspicious activity at a golf course just north of Spring Valley.

Police say that after arriving, officers observed two individuals occupying a parked pick-up truck. It was determined that the vehicle had been stolen and the two occupants were taken into custody without incident.

Officers seized drug paraphernalia, break-in tools and footwear belonging to the accused, according to the media release. Later in the day, they learned that another vehicle had been abandoned at the same golf course and that another business in the area had reported that five of their vehicles were damaged overnight. Police say the investigation determined that the incidents were connected.

As a result, Shireen Moodley, 51, of Ottawa and Joseph Gould, 43, of Brockville, have each been charged with:

  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 – two counts
  • Possession of break-in instruments
  • Trespassing at night
  • Theft over $5,000 of a motor vehicle
  • Mischief – destroy or damage property – six counts

Gould is also facing the additional charge of obstructing a peace officer.

Charges have not been proven in court.

Both accused were remanded into custody following their bail hearing before the Ontario Court of Justice in Brockville.

“Over the past few months, several golf courses within Leeds County were victim of break-ins,” police state. “The investigation into connections to previous golf courses is continuing.”
