UPDATE: One in custody after large scale search along Highway 401 in Prescott

Police say one person is in custody following a “large scale search” in Prescott this morning.

At about 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 11, the OPP posted to X about a large police presence in the Town of Prescott between Highway 401 and Prescott Centre Drive. Grenville OPP, Leeds OPP and the OPP’s Emergency Response Team are all involved.

Later that day, a stolen car was located on the 401 and was being driven dangerously, police say.

“The vehicle fled eastbound and the driver abandoned it near Prescott and fled on foot,” a post to social media reads. “They were arrested without incident by ERT and canine and the vehicle was recovered.”

Police said in the original post that there was no immediate concern for public safety, but that the area’s businesses and school have been notified.

The investigation is continuing.
