A house fire in Gananoque was knocked down by local firefighters earlier today.

Late in the morning of Saturday, Sept. 14, the Gananoque Fire Department responded to reports of a structure fire in a two-storey row house. A media release explains that crews encountered heavy smoke and flames, visible from the front door and upstairs window of the home.

“Thanks to the swift and coordinated efforts of our firefighters, they were able to make rapid entry into the structure and initiate an aggressive fire attack,” says a media release from the fire department. The fire was knocked down before it could cause damage to neighbouring properties.

Grenville EMS, Gananoque police, Gananoque Public Works, and Leeds and Thousand Islands firefighters assisted in the response.

There were no injuries to either residents or firefighters.

The fire department says the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
