On Thursday, Sept. 26, the 1000 Islands Gananoque Chamber Awards Gala was held at Shorelines Casino Thousand Islands.

And plenty of hardware was handed out as part of the ceremony.

Theo Graham, of Songwood Contracting, won the Business Person of the Year Award; Carol Sudds, of Rockport Boat Lines, won the Hal McCarney Tourism Award, Ray Stedman, of Laverne’s Eatery, won the Business Achievement Award; the Gananoque and Area Food Bank earned the Non-Profit of the Year Award; local Wes Eves earned the Skilled Trades of the Year Award; and Carveth Care Centre, the assisted living facility for seniors in Gananoque, won the Employer of the Year Award.

Brian Mabee, a councillor for the Township of Leeds and the Thousand Islands, as well as the Town Crier for Gananoque, was named Volunteer of the Year.

Jan Murray, with the 1000 Islands Gananoque Chamber Awards Gala, thanked all those who attended, and congratulated all winners.

“(The) Gala is the biggest event the chamber does all year, followed closely by our annual golf tournament,” said Murray. “It allows members of the community to share their voice and recognize those who have gone above and beyond to make Gananoque and TLTI the best place to live, work and play.”
