Two Athens residents facing drug, weapons charges after search warrant

A search warrant issued at an Athens home this week led to multiple charges for two local residents.
In a media release, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) say they began investigating drug trafficking in the area earlier this month.
On Thursday, Oct. 24, a search warrant was executed at a home on Wiltse Street in Athens.
Officers seized over 100 grams of suspected crack cocaine and over 12 grams of suspected cocaine, as well as quantities of suspected MDMA, oxycodone and hydromorphone. They also seized a sawed-off shotgun, a 22-calibre rifle, ammunition, over $1,000 in cash and items typically associated with drug trafficking. Two people were arrested at the scene.
Darren Warren, 54, and Cheryle Warren, 62, both residents of Athens, have been charged with:
- Possession of a Schedule 1 substance for the purpose of trafficking – five counts
- Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
- Careless storage of a firearm – two counts
- Unauthorized possession of a firearm – two counts
Charges have not been proven in court.
Darren Warren was scheduled to appear for a bail hearing today (Oct. 25).
