The Gananoque Police Service has made an arrest in connection with an arson investigation.

Police say that in the early morning hours of Dec. 29, at approximately 2:45 a.m., the Gananoque police and the fire department received a call for service regarding a fire in the area of Centre Street at Tanner Street. “The investigation revealed that the fire was intentionally set,” police say.

Thankfully, no one was injured, and there was only relatively minor damage to the home; however, police continued to investigate.

As a result of the investigation, on Dec. 30, officers arrested a 28-year-old person from Gananoque. They were charged with arson, and were held for a show cause bail hearing.

“The Gananoque Police Service would like to thank members of the public who assisted police by providing home video surveillance footage,” a media release says. “This assistance allowed for a timely outcome to the investigation.”

Police say they are confident that this was an isolated incident, and there is no risk to public safety.
