‘MEDtalks’ kicks off in Brockville, aiming to demystify emergency care, explore local healthcare options

The Brockville and District Hospital Foundation (BDHF) is inviting Brockville residents to RSVP for their inaugural MEDtalks session: “Your Emergency Room – Know Before You Go.”
This session aims to facilitate a much-needed conversation about wait times, alternative care options and other pertinent issues from a panel of healthcare professionals from various fields, including a doctor, a pharmacist and an emergency nurse.
Given the recent rise of patient volumes coupled with increasing wait times at hospitals throughout Ontario, The Brockville General Hospital and the Brockville and District Hospital Foundation hope attendees will leave knowing exactly what to expect when visiting the emergency department.
Director of Fund Development Christine Radford told Brockvillelist, “We have chosen this topic for our first session to help the community better navigate the healthcare system.” She continued, “The hospital is seeing high volumes in the emergency department and as such we will focus on providing information on a variety of healthcare services available to members of our community. Information will also be provided on the process once admitted to the emergency department.”
“MEDtalks is our way of bringing vital healthcare insights right to the heart of our community,” said Trish Buote, executive director of the Brockville and District Hospital Foundation. “By connecting residents with medical experts in an engaging format, we’re empowering everyone to ask questions, learn about emerging health topics, and make more informed decisions for themselves and their families.”
Radford hopes that this event will ease some of the anxieties of those in the community. “Knowledge is power, and as such we are hoping that each session assists members of our community in understanding the services available and how to best access them. Every member of our community would benefit.”
Radford also noted that these MEDtalks sessions are being recorded and will be posted to the Brockville and District Hospital Foundation website, where they can also be viewed by all members of the community at a time convenient to them.
The first event will take place on Tuesday, Jan. 21, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at The Aquatarium at Tall Ships Landing. The featured speaker will be Julie Caffin, president and CEO of the Brockville General Hospital.
According to the BDHF, future MEDtalk sessions will be focused on a variety of top-of-mind topics in the medical field such as respiratory health, proper skin care and skin cancer as the summer approaches, and more.
Organizers are asking attendees to pre register through Eventbrite, where you can register and post your question for the panel of healthcare specialists.
