Gananoque council greenlights east-end pumping station expansion

Gananoque’s planning advisory committee (PAC) has given the green light for the expansion of the east end sewage pumping station at 815 King Street East, recommending approval of the development permit with no objections from Gananoque council.
The project includes the construction of a new accessory building for chemical and dosing equipment, a parking area, and a height increase from 4.5 metres to 5.4 metres.
Conditions for approval include the incorporation of cedar trees or other landscaping along the right-of-way, an updated site plan to minimize asphalt where feasible, and compliance with environmental recommendations from the Cataraqui Region Conservation Authority (CRCA), as well as an ecological impact assessment.
At the Jan. 28 meeting, engineers acting on behalf of the town addressed concerns from both the CRCA and local residents.
Jeff Brown, a longtime adjacent property owner, raised issues about drainage, hydro pole relocation, and noise from an existing generator.
While a culvert for drainage is outside the scope of the project, it will be considered by public works, it was noted.
Despite tight site constraints, engineers assured the committee they could provide a wider setback from a nearby pond, increasing it to 23–25 metres, though falling short of the recommended 30 metres.
With no further objections or new information submitted, the project now moves forward, pending final approvals.
