A 16-year-old boy was arrested after an altercation at the Park Street YMCA, where he allegedly sprayed a female youth in the eyes with what was initially believed to be pepper spray.

Police say it happened on the evening of Friday, March 7. Officers received “multiple, varying calls for service” to the Park Street YMCA.

One of the incidents was reported to have happened at about 9 p.m. Police were told a 16-year-old boy had allegedly pepper-sprayed another youth.

Police arrived at the scene, which they described as “chaotic.” They learned that a female youth was upset about comments and insults being made about her; she then confronted the 16-year-old, male about these comments, and an argument escalated to the point that the male subject pulled out a canister and sprayed the female in the eyes.

It was later discovered that the canister used was in fact Axe body spray, not pepper spray as initially reported. Nonetheless, this spray caused significant discomfort and a need for medical attention.

The 16-year-old, male was found to be on probation with conditions. He was arrested and charged with possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose, assault with a weapon and fail to comply with probation.

He was held for a bail hearing.
