Elections Canada estimates that more than 130,000 people in the five Eastern Ontario ridings covered by Quinteist, Kingstonist, Lanarkist and Brockvilleist have already cast their ballots in advance of the April 28 federal election. And the riding that locked in the most early votes might surprise you.

Canadians cast a total of 7.3 million votes during early voting, which was held between Friday, April 18 and Monday, April 21. That’s a 25 per cent increase from the 5.8 million valid votes cast at advance polls in the previous general election in 2021.

Here in Ontario, voters cast nearly 2.8 million ballots over the Easter long weekend, up from 2.2 million during early voting in 2021.

Here’s how the advanced ballot numbers stacked up in local ridings from least votes cast to most, according to Elections Canada estimates.

  • Bay of Quinte: 22,800 out of 93,667 registered voters (24.34 per cent)
  • Leeds—Grenville—Thousand Islands—Rideau Lakes: 24,962 out of 90,347 registered voters (27.63 per cent)
