Augusta Township’s commitment to public safety was on full display this week as local community members and businesses stepped up with generous financial support to purchase life-saving equipment for the Augusta Fire Rescue.

At a presentation on April 29, the Augusta Firefighter’s Association presented a cheque of $23,000, which was raised by Chevron Construction with an additional $5,000.

Throughout the last decade, Augusta Firefighter’s Association has donated more than $380,000 to Augusta Township for new equipment to help local first responders provide a higher level of service for local residents. The most recent $28,000 combined donation contribution will go toward the purchase of battery-powered jaws of life, an essential upgrade towards improving the township’s fire services.

The jaws of life equipment comes at a total cost of $57,000.

In a press release issued by Augusta Township on May 1, Deputy Fire Chief Chad Davis said the donations are a testament to the strength and dedication of the local community.

“We are very happy to be able to do the fundraising that allows us to give back and donate to the township to help pay for these new rescue tools,” said Davis. “It’s a great step forward for our gear, equipment, and training—and it wouldn’t be possible without our incredible team of firefighters and the support of council.”

Mayor Jeff Shaver offered his thanks to Chevron Construction, calling them a “great community partner” in many township initiatives over the years. “Their support—alongside the ongoing efforts of the Augusta Firefighter’s Association through pancake breakfasts, raffles and other fundraisers—not only supports responders but also helps our community,” Shaver said in the press release.

Members of township council, administrative staff, and Chevron Construction owners Darren Ross and Amanda Hogan were on hand to celebrate this latest win at a cheque presentation ceremony with several Augusta Fire Rescue firefighters.
