Brockville Railway Tunnel set to reopen next week for 2025 season

After a lengthy pause, Brockville’s historic railway tunnel will finally reopen to the public next week just in time for the 2025 summer season.
Hailed as one of South Eastern Ontario’s most popular tourist attractions, the one-of-a-kind experience offers visitors a chance to walk through Canada’s oldest railway tunnel.
A large part of what makes the tunnel so exciting for visitors is its immersive dynamic lighting and synchronized soundscape. However, due to technical issues and equipment failing from water exposure, the tunnel has been closed for months so city officials could get to work replacing dozens of light fixtures.
While there were concerns in recent months that the opening date would need to be pushed back further, the revitalization work will be completed just in time to usher in Brockville’s busiest tourism season.
To celebrate this exciting news, a public ceremony is scheduled for 2 p.m. at the south entrance of the tunnel on Water Street.
The event marks the official start of the tunnel’s operating season, encouraging local residents and tourists alike to walk through the site’s new and improved immersive multimedia installation.
Admission to the tunnel is free, though donations are welcome.
