Brockville police arrested two individuals in separate impaired driving incidents earlier this week.

The first arrest occurred around 1 a.m. on May 20, when officers were conducting a R.I.D.E. program on Stewart Boulevard. A 73-year-old man was stopped and showed signs of alcohol consumption. A roadside breath test registered a “fail,” and further testing at the Brockville Police Service confirmed the driver was over the legal limit. His vehicle was impounded, his licence suspended, and he was charged with impaired operation and impaired operation – blood alcohol over 80mg. He was released with a future court date.

The second arrest took place just after 3 a.m. on May 21, when officers stopped a vehicle backing out of a fenced-off lot on Perth Street. The 29-year-old female driver was showing signs of impairment, believed to be from drug use. She failed a Standard Field Sobriety Test, was arrested, and a search turned up quantities of Xanax and LSD tablets. Testing by a drug recognition expert confirmed drug impairment. She was charged with impaired operation by drugs and two counts of possession of a Schedule I substance. She was also released with a future court date.
