The Township of Leeds and the Thousand Islands is reaffirming its commitment to the Seeley’s Bay Community Hall and former fire station, clarifying that the building is not for sale.

Following the May 5 council meeting, it was reported that the municipally-owned facility was being considered for sale. Township officials say that’s untrue.

In fact, council approved a $98,222.82 investment to replace the building’s heating and cooling system, a move Mayor Corinna Smith-Gatcke says reflects council’s intent to maintain and preserve the facility.

As for what’s next, the township will be consulting with local community groups and residents to help determine the building’s future use. A report with recommendations and cost estimates will follow, before council makes any final decisions.

“We are committed to a thorough and inclusive process that welcomes input from everyone interested in the building’s future,” said Smith-Gatcke.
