A coordinated police search in Maitland came to a safe conclusion Thursday evening with the arrest of a wanted man.

Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) say officers from the Leeds and Grenville County detachments were attending a residence in Maitland shortly after noon on June 19 for an unrelated matter when they spotted a high-risk individual known to be wanted. The man fled on foot, prompting a large-scale search involving the Emergency Response Team, Tactics and Rescue Unit, Canine Unit, an OPP helicopter, and a drone.

At approximately 6 p.m., Alexander Ubdegrove, 30, of Brockville, was located near County Road 2 and arrested without incident. No injuries were reported, and although there were concerns the man could be armed, no weapon was found.

Ubdegrove was wanted on outstanding warrants and is now facing the following charges:

  • Resist peace officer
  • Flight from peace officer
  • Operation while prohibited
  • Take motor vehicle without consent

Charges have not been proven in court.

He was held in custody for a bail hearing scheduled for Friday, June 20 at the Ontario Court of Justice in Brockville.

The OPP thanked Maitland residents for their patience and cooperation during the search and acknowledged the assistance of community members who provided information.
