Heat warning in effect: Here’s where to stay cool in Brockville

Environment Canada has issued a heat warning for the Leeds and Grenville region, as soaring temperatures and high humidity levels push some Ontario cities to all-time records. With the hot, humid weather expected to continue for several days, residents are urged to take steps to stay cool and safe.
Exposure to extreme heat can cause dehydration, heat exhaustion, and even heat stroke. As such, the City of Brockville put out a notice on Monday, June 23 reminding residents that heat affects everyone, and even short-term exposure can lead to health concerns.

Heat Safety Tips from the Health Unit
If you don’t have access to air conditioning, here are a few ways to stay cool:
- Use fans to circulate air, but do not rely on them as the sole method of cooling.
- Keep blinds closed and lights turned off on the sunny side of your home.
- Take cool showers or baths, or use cold wet towels to bring your body temperature down.
Additional cooling centres may be available throughout Leeds, Grenville and Lanark. Visit the Leeds, Grenville and Lanark Health Unit for updated information.
Environment Canada issues heat warnings when:
- Temperatures reach or exceed 31°C during the day and remain above 20°C at night for two days, or
- The humidex exceeds 40°C for two consecutive days
