New lighting could soon be added along a section of the Brock Trail, allowing the City of Brockville to improve safety and accessibility near a growing residential area and local elementary school.

A motion scheduled to go before Brockville’s General Committee at their meeting today, Tuesday, May 19, 2026, recommends council approve $4,000 in Legacy Fund grant funding for the installation of four new solar-powered trail lights along the Brock Trail near Church Street.

According to the staff report, prepared by director of operations Phil Wood and transportation and fleet services supervisor Pat Brown, the funding was awarded to the Brock Trail Committee on May 1 through the Legacy Fund grant program. The committee reportedly applied for the funding in April, specifically requesting support for four solar lights similar to those already installed elsewhere along the trail.

The proposed lighting would be installed along the section of trail running from Cedar Street toward King Street parallel to Church Street.

The report details that the project is intended to complete lighting infrastructure along a portion of the trail that has seen increased use due to nearby residential development and the opening of Swift Waters Public School.

If approved by council, city staff will move forward with procurement and installation of the new lighting. Under Brockville’s budgetary control policy, council approval is required before funding can formally be allocated to the project.
