The City of Brockville Water Systems Division is continuing the seasonal watermain flushing program, which started on April 1 and is expected to continue until September 2026. The work has been taking place every workday between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m and is a critical part of the city’s preventative maintenance program.

According to an update by the City of Brockville released on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, yearly watermain flushing involves forcing water through the distribution system at high speeds to remove sediment, mineral buildup and other deposits that naturally accumulate in water pipes over time.

The city detailed that the program also serves to “verify the proper operation of fire hydrants and ensure adequate flow for fire protection,” which works towards improving “the overall efficiency of the municipal water distribution system.”

While flushing is underway, residents in the involved area may experience a few changes to their water, including temporary discolouration like “cloudy” or “rusty” appearing water or fluctuations in their water pressure..

City officials assured residents that discolouration is “caused by the high-velocity water stirring up and cleaning out deposits. It is an aesthetic issue and does not pose a health risk.

The city provided a small update on the progress of the flushing, noting that crews have completed all hydrants south of Highway 401 and west of Park street.

Currently, residents can expect crews to be flushing along Bethune Street, moving eastward from King Street to Highway 401.

“We appreciate your patience as we perform this essential maintenance to ensure the continued delivery of safe, high-quality drinking water,” said the city.
