The Township of Elizabethtown-Kitley is seeking public input on the future of the former Frankville Public School, a property municipal leaders describe as a a “generational opportunity” that could play a significant role in the township’s future.

In a release issued on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, the township shared that they will host two public meetings this month to gather feedback from residents on potential uses for the school property.

The property was officially acquired by the municipality on May 25, 2026 following council’s initial approval of the $325,000 purchase earlier this year and according to the township, receiving community input will be a key factor in determining how the site will be utilized moving forward.

“Acquiring the former Frankville Public School presents the Township with a generational opportunity, and we are pleased that we were able to retain this valuable property in public hands,” said Mayor Brant Burrow. “The facility is well maintained, offers many useful amenities, and can be economically retrofitted to meet provincial accessibility standards.”

With the property now under municipal ownership, council is considering the following options:

  1. Relocation and consolidation of municipal offices, which would relocate the Township’s main administrative office to the Frankville school and consolidate services currently split between the New Dublin Road and Toledo locations. The township said that this option could reduce the need for major upgrades to existing municipal building and provide a more functional and improved space for Council and public meetings.
  2. Development of a community-use space, which would repurpose the Frankville school as a community hub. This hub could potentially offer residents with more gathering spaces like a library, recreational and fitness programming, educational workshops, and more.

Beside these two options, residents are encouraged to share their input and alternate ideas for how the property could be used. Township officials reiterate that no final decision has been made and the consultation process is intended to ensure the property serves the needs of the community for years to come.

“I highly encourage residents to review all the materials available on our website and engage in this opportunity to provide us with valuable feedback,” Burrow stated. “The Frankville property will likely mark a significant chapter in the Township’s history.”

Residents will have two opportunities to participate in person at public meetings scheduled for June 15 at 1 p.m. and June 29 at 6 p.m. Both meetings will be held at the former Frankville Public School at 231 County Road 29 in Frankville.

For those unable to attend in person, the township has also launched an online survey. Background reports and supporting materials have also been made available on the township’s website to help residents better understand the options under consideration.
