Gananoque resident charged with theft after refusing to return lost wallet: police

A Gananoque resident is facing a theft charge following an investigation into a missing wallet.
Local police say in a Thursday, June 11 media release that they received a report of a wallet lost at a local business on Sunday, May 25.
Officers reviewed the surveillance footage, and noticed a person picking up what was believed to be the lost wallet and putting it in their back pocket.
After police identified the suspect, they were given an opportunity to return the wallet, along with what the police described as “a substantial amount of cash inside.” The individual reportedly did not return the wallet or cash.
As a result, officers obtained a warrant, and on Wednesday, June 3, a 38-year-old Gananoque resident was charged with theft under $5,000.
The accused, whom police did not name, was released on an undertaking with conditions.
