Seniors across Leeds and Grenville will benefit from more than $212,000 in provincial funding this year to support programs that help older adults stay active, healthy and connected to their communities.

In a release issued on Friday, June 19, 2026, Steve Clark, MPP for Leeds-Grenville-Thousand Islands and Rideau Lakes, announced that four local Seniors Active Living Centres (SALCs) will receive a combined $212,040 in annual funding as part of Ontario’s investment in seniors programming.

A timely development during Seniors Month, the funding is intended to support a wide range of activities that encourage social engagement, physical activity and independent living for older residents.

This last round of funding is part of a larger provincewide investment of nearly $23 million supporting 416 SALC’s programs across Ontario, delivering programs such as fitness classes, arts and crafts activities, workshops, lunches, social gatherings and more.

Today’s announcement builds off the momentum of last June, when MPP Clark and the Hon. Raymond Cho, Ontario’s Minister for Seniors and Accessibility, joined Rideau Lakes Mayor Arie Hoogenboom to celebrate the announcement of a new Seniors Active Living Centre at the Portland Community Hall.

The Golden Years program in Rideau Lakes is one of four local SALCs that will benefit from the $212,000 in annual funding from the Ontario government this year.

“I’m a tremendous supporter of the program because I’ve seen firsthand the difference they are making in the lives of seniors throughout Leeds and Grenville,” Clark said. “I want to thank Minister for Seniors and Accessibility Raymond Cho for his ongoing support of our four local SALCs and his commitment to Ontario’s seniors.”

According to the release, the local funding allocations will be distributed to:

  • Brockville Senior Citizens Inc. — $57,640
  • Walker House in Prescott — $57,640
  • Seniors Community Services in North Grenville — $55,000
  • Golden Years Program in Rideau Lakes Township — $41,760

“Senior Active Living Centres keep our seniors fit, active, healthy, socially connected, close to their homes and in their communities,” said Raymond Cho, Ontario Minister for Seniors and Accessibility. “This will help even more seniors, no matter where they live, including those in a city or rural, remote and northern communities, live more healthy, happy and independent lives.”

This year, the province is also marking the 60th anniversary of the SALC program, which began in 1966 under the Elderly Persons’ Centres Act. Over the past six decades, the program has expanded across Ontario with the goal of helping seniors maintain their independence and quality of life through recreation, learning and social opportunities.
