A stop sign violation and a report of a driver drinking beer behind the wheel led to two separate impaired driving arrests in Brockville last week.

Police say that on Thursday, June 18, 2026, at approximately 3:30 p.m., officers were patrolling in the area of William Street and James Street West when they saw a black vehicle fail to stop at a stop sign.

Police conducted a traffic stop, but police say that after pulling over, the driver exited the vehicle and began walking away before officers stopped him.

Officers identified the driver as a 40-year-old man and suspected he had consumed alcohol; they performed a roadside breath test, which resulted in a fail.

The man was arrested and taken to the Brockville Police Service for further testing, which police say confirmed he was operating a vehicle with a blood alcohol concentration over the legal limit.

Police also determined his driver’s licence was suspended.

The man’s vehicle was impounded, and he was released with a future court date after being charged with:

  • Operation while impaired
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration over 80 mg

In a separate incident on Friday, June 19, 2026, at approximately 7:45 a.m., police received a report that a man had purchased beer at a Quickie Convenience Store and was drinking it while driving out of the parking lot.

Officers received a description of the vehicle and attended the registered owner’s residence in the area of Wildwood Crescent, where they located the vehicle as the driver was returning home.

Police identified the driver as a 38-year-old man and determined he had been consuming alcohol. A roadside breath test was conducted, resulting in a fail.

He was arrested and taken to the Brockville Police Service for additional testing, which police say confirmed he was impaired and operating a vehicle with a blood alcohol concentration over the legal limit.

His driver’s licence was suspended, his vehicle was impounded, and he was charged with:
