Kemptville District Hospital (KDH) is taking a significant step toward reducing surgical wait times and improving access to care by creating additional operating room capacity through a strategic reorganization of services.

In a release issued on Monday, June 22, 2026, the hospital announced that it has moved endoscopy procedures out of its operating rooms and into a dedicated clinic space. The transition, which reportedly began earlier this month, is expected to help KDH meet growing demand for surgical procedures across the region and enable patients to continue receiving care close to home.

Specifically, relocating endoscopy services allows for a better utilization of clinical space, creating additional Operating Room capacity and improving access to surgical procedures in the region.

KDH detailed that endoscopy procedures are now being performed in the hospital’s ambulatory clinic space on Mondays, with plans already underway to expand the service to additional days in the future. Hospital officials noted that existing clinic services have not been affected and continue to operate as normal in alternate clinic rooms.

Tanya Deans, KDH’s Manager of Clinical Programs, said the project has been years in the making and was made possible through cooperation with surgical partners at The Ottawa Hospital.

“I’d like to acknowledge our surgical partners at The Ottawa Hospital for collaborating with us to bring this long-standing vision to fruition,” said Deans in the release. “This success story is the next step toward creating surgical capacity for patients.”

“Increasing surgical capacity is a priority for KDH and our regional partners,” added Dr. Colin Sentongo, KDH’s Chief of Staff. “We have three modern Operating Rooms and an incredible team in our surgical care unit, so the stage is set to continue growing surgical programs.”

KDH officials closed their announcement by expressing their gratitude for the staff, physicians, and volunteers who were involved in the process of transitioning to the new service model.
