Four Brockville drivers charged with impaired over two days

Four people are facing impaired driving-related charges after separate incidents in Brockville on July 3 and 4.
Brockville police say officers arrested four drivers over the two-day period, despite ongoing enforcement efforts and public awareness campaigns aimed at reducing impaired driving.
The first arrest occurred at about 10 p.m. on July 3, when officers stopped a vehicle travelling 94 km/h in a posted 50 km/h zone on North Augusta Road.
Police say the 25-year-old driver failed a roadside screening test and was arrested. Further testing at the Brockville Police Service confirmed impairment.
He was charged with:
- Operation while impaired – alcohol
- Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration over 80 mg
- Stunt driving – excessive speed
His vehicle was impounded and his driver’s licence was suspended.
About an hour later, police received a complaint about a tractor-trailer on Jefferson Drive after a caller reported concerning noises and questioned whether the vehicle was safe to be on the road.
Officers located the tractor-trailer on North Augusta Road and stopped it. Police say the 50-year-old driver was suspected of having consumed alcohol and was asked to provide a roadside breath sample.
After being given multiple opportunities, the driver allegedly refused.
He was charged with refusal to comply with a demand. His vehicle was impounded and his driver’s licence was suspended.
At about 5:30 a.m. on July 4, officers responded to Balmoral Place after receiving a report of a pickup truck blocking a live lane of traffic with the driver passed out behind the wheel.
Police say they found a 44-year-old man in the driver’s seat and observed signs of impairment, along with drug paraphernalia inside the vehicle.
The driver was arrested and taken to the station for testing by a Drug Recognition Expert, who determined he was impaired by drugs.
He was charged with:
- Operation while impaired by drugs
- Care or control of a vehicle with cannabis readily available
His vehicle was impounded and his driver’s licence was suspended.
Later that day, at about 7 p.m., police responded after a concerned citizen reported seeing a vehicle reverse into a tree on King Street West near Finnegan’s Tavern.
Officers located the 40-year-old driver standing beside the vehicle without shoes. Police say empty alcohol beverage cans were visible inside the vehicle.
The driver allegedly refused to provide a roadside breath sample and was charged with refusal to comply with a demand.
His vehicle was impounded and his driver’s licence was suspended.
All four accused were released from custody and are scheduled to appear in court at a later date.
“We urge the public to please help reduce impaired driving,” police say in the release. “Plan ahead for accommodations or transportation and reduce the risk in our community.”
