Downtown Brockville events to bring road closures, transit detours this weekend

Submitted by City of Brockville

Residents planning to visit downtown Brockville this weekend should expect road closures, parking restrictions and transit detours as community events take place throughout the city.

The Downtown Brockville BIA’s Shop the Street: Summer of Love event will close King Street between Perth Street and Bethune Street from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, July 11, a media release from the City explains.

No parking will be permitted on King Street within the closure area during the event.

The Home Street boat launch will also be closed from 5:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday to accommodate the BaitFuel Fishing Derby.

Transit detour

Brockville Transit’s Red Route will be detoured between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. because of the King Street closure.

From the Court House, buses will travel east on James Street, south on Garden Street, then east on Pine Street to Park Street before rejoining the regular King Street route.

On trips to the Court House, buses will turn west on James Street from Ormond Street, continue to Perth Street, travel south to the Water Street at St. Paul bus stop, then pass through the Metro parking lot before rejoining the regular westbound King Street route.

The following bus stops will not be serviced during the detour:

  • King at Garden
  • King at Orchard
  • Ormond at Wellington
  • King at Ormond
  • King at Apple
  • Aquatarium
  • Water at Home

Red Route riders are encouraged to use stops at King Street and Park Street, King Street and Perth Street, or along James Street. During the detour, drivers will also watch for passengers flagging down buses on James Street and will allow riders to board and exit at locations along the route that are not normally designated bus stops.
