The Gananoque Soup Kitchen is taking a creative approach to fundraising this weekend, as it works toward keeping its doors open through the end of November.

The organization will host a community-wide Tape Day fundraiser on Saturday, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., with volunteers stationed at locations across Gananoque inviting residents to make donations by placing bills on strips of blue tape.

One of the main fundraising locations will be outside West Side Moroni’s, where the soup kitchen operates as part of the Charlie Donevan Legacy Project.

Organizers have set a fundraising goal of $12,000, saying the money is needed to help keep the soup kitchen operating through Nov. 30.

The concept behind the fundraiser is simple. Community members are encouraged to visit one of the designated locations, where volunteers will assist them in placing their monetary donations on blue tape displayed along nearby sidewalks.

Every dollar raised will go directly to supporting the Gananoque Soup Kitchen.

The soup kitchen was established by Mary Donevan, daughter of the late Charlie Donevan. It serves as a community hub, providing meals and support to residents in need.
