The City of Brockville has appointed veteran municipal leader Brian Simpson as its new Director of Development Services, who will step into the new role later this month.

According to the city’s announcement on Friday, August 14, 2026, Simpson will officially begin the new role on Aug. 31, bringing more than two decades of experience with him. Simpson previously worked with the City of Ottawa, where he held a series of progressively senior leadership positions focused on economic development, strategic planning, infrastructure modernization, organizational improvement and community development.

Simpson holds a Master of Public Administration from Queen’s University, a Project Management Professional (PMP) designation, and an Honours Bachelor of Economics and Political Science from the University of Ottawa.

In his new role, Simpson will oversee Brockville’s Development Services Department, helping guide planning, growth and development initiatives as the city continues to attract new investment and manage future growth.

The City says Simpson’s background in municipal leadership, stakeholder engagement, economic development and strategic planning will be a valuable asset as Brockville works toward supporting responsible growth while enhancing services for residents, businesses and developers.

The appointment comes as Brockville continues to experience residential and commercial development, with the Development Services Department playing a central role in land-use planning, building and development approvals, and long-term community planning, city officials detailed.
