A career in health care doesn’t necessarily mean becoming a doctor or nurse, and Kemptville District Hospital (KDH) wants local high school students to see just how many options are available.

The hospital is hosting its second annual ‘Explore a Future in Healthcare’ seminar for high school students interested in a career in the field.

This one-day seminar will take place on Wednesday, Oct. 21, 2026, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., according to a KDH press release, issued on Thursday, Aug. 20, 2026. The seminar is free and open to students in Grades 9 to 12.

Participants will learn about a variety careers in healthcare, and have the opportunity to speak to healthcare professionals about their line of work.

Careers that will be discussed include maintenance, nursing, environmental services, medical device reprocessing, administration, dietary, material management, IT, diagnostic imaging, physiotherapy and more.

Students will be able to tour different areas of the hospital, including the Emergency Department (ED), Diagnostic Imaging (DI), CT Scanner Suite, lab, boiler room, pharmacy, dietary services, and health records.

The seminar will also share information about volunteer opportunities at KDH and grants for students pursing a career in healthcare. KDH’s Senior Leadership Team will also do a presentation, according to the release.

“KDH is excited to welcome young people who are considering careers in health care,” said KDH President and CEO Frank Vassallo.

“Our mission is Building Healthier Communities, and inspiring the next generation of health care workers is vital for our hospital and community. This seminar is an educational opportunity to learn how you can contribute to the provision of high quality and safe health care for people in your community.”

To attend, students must be up to date on their immunizations, including Covid-19 shots. They must also have their own transportation to and from KDH.

The seminar will include a pizza lunch and KDH swag bag for all participants, organizers shared in the release.

“KDH is proud to offer this invaluable opportunity for high school students because we know how important it is to encourage our youth and support their aspirations,” said Vassallo.

The deadline to register is Tuesday, Sept. 15, 2026, or until spaces are filled. Depending on interest, a second date may be added.
