A 17-year-old is facing numerous charges, including dangerous operation, flight from police and resisting arrest after Brockville police say he repeatedly fled from officers on a sport motorcycle before being arrested following a foot pursuit.

The teen was initially charged with numerous traffic offences at the beginning of August after allegedly failing to stop for police while riding a blue Yamaha motorcycle, according to a Brockville Police Service media release issued Friday, Aug. 28,

Those charges included stunt driving, failing to stop and several insurance- and permit-related offences. The motorcycle was also impounded for 14 days.

Police say an officer attempted to stop the same motorcycle near Stewart Boulevard and Centennial Road on Aug. 26. The driver allegedly fled and could not be positively identified at the time, although officers suspected the same teen was riding it.

At approximately 11:30 p.m. on Aug. 27, an officer spotted the motorcycle travelling on North Augusta Road. Police say the rider again failed to stop.

The investigation led officers to the Kensington Parkway area, where the motorcycle was later seen entering the Kensington Plaza parking lot.

Once the motorcycle was parked, officers moved in and prevented the rider from leaving, police say. The teen allegedly fled on foot and entered a nearby apartment building, where he was arrested following a short pursuit.

Police allege the teen resisted arrest, but officers quickly gained control without further incident.

The 17-year-old was charged with:

  • Flight from police
  • Resisting arrest
  • Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle
  • Additional Highway Traffic Act offences

The motorcycle was impounded for seven days.

The teen was released with conditions and a future court date. His identity is protected under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

The charges have not been proven in court.
